Abstract

This is an essay about the future of higher education in Mexico. The core subject under discussion is the changing nature of prospective thinking, not only regarding higher education, but also society, the economy and the policy that serves as setting and context of our national higher education system. Starting with a review of the concept of future and diverse futures that may be identified in different public action fields, this paper explores some of the primary international discourses on the topic and their possible implications when considering the Mexican case. Likewise, I identify some of the main current problems of higher education in Mexico and I propose the topics that could become policy in the future of our national tertiary education.
