Abstract

The mission statement of the university: education, research and extension, has to meet and respond to the needs of society. This article contributes to a scheme of the historical evolution of universities from an extensionist view.  It shows the transition of the Vladimir Ilich Lenin University at Las Tunas over several periods, until present times, into an institution whose premises are to organize, foster and carry out activities to promote culture in its widest conception, to consolidate values, the political and ideological education from different points of view, the assertion of the identity of the individual in different spaces and traditions rescue as part of a complete training in general culture of the university community and of future professionals.
