University, development and cooperation in the perspective of Latin America

Abstract

Over the last decades the proposals of higher education in Latin America have been accompanied by views and agendas aimed at desirable scenarios that not necessarily have been achieved. In consideration of this concern this article pays attention to the connection between development and universities in the last five decades in order to reflect on some of the currently present dilemmas. It makes references to the decades of hope, skepticism, crisis, challenges, tensions, until reaching the current decade that underlines the phenomena of globalization. Among the latter, it presents regionalization with integration as one of the policies that can contribute to balance the phenomena of inequality due to the high concentration of knowledge that is occurring worldwide and in Latin America itself.
