Abstract

This article reviews the arguments that support the logic of the collegiate organization of higher education institutions and describes the tensions this model has been subject to and the impact on the life of faculty. In summary, the article represents a critical analysis of recent trends in the government and the management of higher education institutions, although it admits that reforms in this sector are necessary.
