The ideology of new public management from the point of view of Chilean university managers: a multiple case study

This article examines the effects of the internalization of the ideas of new public management among Chilean university managers, analyzing both their interpretation of this process and the main tensions they perceive in the implementation of the new internal monitoring and accountability systems. The analysis shows that managers actually adhere in their actions to the principles of the new public management, while also expressing some criticism about the use of new indicators, regardless of institution they belong to. The article concludes with a summary and identifies possible areas of study on the subject.
