Initial training for university teaching is formally carried out in Brazil in formal graduate courses, especially at the doctoral level. The objective of this work is to understand the experiences that doctoral students have in their postgraduate training for university teaching. Using discourse analysis, twelve of them were interviewed in the final years of their academic career. The results show that the doctoral students are interested in training as university teachers, but that the formal structure of the course and the university teachers reproduce neoliberal productivist discourses that focus the work only on academic scientific production.
