The study of the factors that influence the construction of students' school trajectories is a valuable source of information for decision making in education. A quantitative descriptive-cross-sectional study was carried out with 102 eighth-semester university students. The purpose of the article is to analyze the scholastic trajectory of the students of the Mixteca Regional Complex based on their undergraduate degree, the grades they obtained, and the development of generic competencies. The combination of these factors made it possible to identify eight types of school trajectory: ideal-high-advanced, ideal-high-basic, ideal-regular-advanced, ideal-regular-basic; real-high-advanced; real-high-basic, real-regular-advanced and real-regular-basic. The authors concluded that the professional orientation in the previous educational levels would be a determining factor in the construction of successful trajectories in higher education.
