Abstract

The objective of this article is to present in a narrative portrait the most significant results of my doctoral thesis. It is a qualitative research framed by experiences, challenges and motivations that encouraged three women to start PhD studies after age 45. Based on their life experiences we can deduce that the participants agreed that the motivation to go back to study ended up being one of the most importantand correct decisions of their lives. The fact to study involved the need to establish priorities, overcome educational and family related challenges, as well as adjustments to fulfill the multiple functions they assumed as women. Starting PhD studies as adults gave them the personal satisfaction to achieve the longed for goal to obtain the PhD in Education.
