Abstract

This research has as purpose to analyze the impact of policy reforms that lead to the privatization and internationalization on the Spanish public university. The results highlight a trend towards higher tuition fees and greater institutional diversification, characterized by the creation of a research university model of excellence. The problem with this scenario is that the research universities are located in the autonomous communities (Madrid and Catalonia) that have the highest economic rates in the whole country and, at the same time, where there is a lower percentage of students who benefit from scholarships, a situation that accentuates inequalities to a greater extent.
