Abstract

Towards mid 1948 in the middle of critical conditions caused by a student movement that lead to the resignation of Doctor Salvador Zubirán from the rectorship of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, Luis Garrido assumed said position. In addition to restoring calm to the most recognized university in Mexico and its academic strengthening, he headed two events of great significance for the institution: the celebration of the 4th Centenary of the foundation of the university and the construction of a “city for university students”. This work addresses the background and development of both events, as well as the way in which they are interlinked with the administration of rector Luis Garrido.
