Abstract

Historically, Argentina has been and remains to be a recipient of migratory flows. Primarily, in recent years, the higher education institutions of the country have witnessed an increase on the number of foreign students, both for graduate and postgraduate studies. Argentina’s different regional integration processes have different types of influence on the evolution of the amount of migrants who decide to live in our country. In addition, a unique kind of public policies promoted by the State have a say not only on the number of migrants, but on their life conditions in Argentina as well. Within this framework, the objective of this analysis is to provide a depiction of the Argentinian State’s role with regards to the education policies that have an impact on migrant populations, particularly when it comes to higher education, as well as to move forward the quantification of the number of foreign students in Argentina’s higher education system and their territorial distribution, within the context of recent migratory processes.
